Today we’re going to get some extensive practice with our new nouns, adjectives, and conjugations of Poder.
First, let’s learn a couple of new idioms, and the first one is going to help you greet people. In English, sometimes to ask people how they’re doing, we ask “how’s it going?” In Spanish, you literally say “How’s it going for you?” This is pretty easy to do; just ask ¿Cómo va?, literally “how does it go”, but then also put an indirect object right before va.
For example, to ask “how’s it going” to one person in an informal voice:
¿Cómo te va?
See if you can predict how to do this in a formal voice.
(formal) How’s it going?
¿Cómo le va?
Now how would you say “How’s it going?” to a group of people?
How’s it going (for you all)?
¿Cómo les va?
Let’s also learn a new way to use the word dónde, which means “where?”. In certain contexts, if you’re referring to having “a place to be”, you’ll use the idiom dónde estar, literally “where to be”, but it’s typically translated as “a place to be”. For example:
Now he doesn’t have a place to be.
Ahora no tiene dónde estar.
All right, let’s practice these idioms and everything we’ve learned this week using this week’s final quiz.
In this first one, the English is “at the same time as the boy”, but the Spanish equivalent is actually “at the same time that the boy”. See if you can predict the entire Spanish sentence.
I can do it at the same time as the boy.

If I could do it, I would do it by tomorrow.
